Avian influenza is an infection caused by the Influenza A (H5N1) virus that occurs naturally among birds. Outbreaks of this virus among poultry are ongoing in various countries; however, humans have been infected in some cases. A majority of these cases have occurred from direct or close contact with infected poultry or contaminated surfaces. Microbix was established over 20 years ago as a virology company that works with infectious agents such as the influenza virus as part of their day-to-day business.
